A Simple Guide to Your Living Altar
A Simple Guide to Your Living Altar
A money bowl is a vessel for attracting prosperity & financial abundance into your life and home. Created and filled with intention, it is a living altar; meaning it needs tending and regular care to continue to keep your intent imbued within it’s sacred space.
Begin by clearing & cleansing your chosen space for your new altar and offering dish, either with incense or with a candle, lit with intent. You’ll want to give it a spot in a high traffic area of your home, away from any doorway, where it will be seen regularly. Remember to keep it out of reach of tiny paws or hands (pets and children) as it will be a sacred space with occasional flame from candles.
Once your chosen space is cleansed, it’s time to layer your bowl with each component. As you add each component, speak or think clearly, your intentions for your money bowl. Begin by pouring approximately one third of your rice jar into your bowl. Rice represents abundance and gives your money bowl a solid base that speaks “plenty”. Next, sprinkle a bit of salt from your salt jar, onto the rice. Salt is used for protection and adding it to your living altar will ensure prosperity and financial abundance continue to flow into your life with the best intentions.
After your salt has been added, place your cinnamon stick in the rice; break your stick into multiple pieces so you can add small pieces as needed in the future as needed. Once the cinnamon is placed, you can add your bay leaf to the bowl as well. Before you add the bay leaf, feel free to write on the leaf; you could write dollar signs or simply what you want: prosperity & financial abundance. Lastly, place your gold candle in the middle of the rice, away from your cinnamon stick & bay leaf.
Now that your bowl has been lovingly set in its home within your home, it’s time to bring the spark of energy within your money bowl to life by lighting your gold candle & speaking the following affirmation: “Prosperity & financial abundance flow effortlessly, easily & consistently to me.”
Each week, set aside time to tend to your living altar as you would with any sacred living item which needs care. Straighten up the area around your money bowl, add a coin, or bill to your offering dish around the bowl. Remember to always speak to your altar and thank it, showing your gratefulness for its energy helping you. Each time you are blessed with a windfall, add another coin or bill to show gratitude.
Other items you can also add as offerings include (but not limited to) additional bay leaves, basil, cloves, mint, crystals, winning lottery tickets (don’t forget to cash them in eventually!) or even a sigil of your own creation, or runes. You could also add a sprinkle of coffee grounds to keep the energy moving quickly.
Every once in a while you will also need to refresh your money bowl. This could be on the 1st of each month, when the seasons change, on the sabbats or other holidays or even once a week. Refresh your altar whenever it feels right to YOU! If you feel like the bowl or energy is stagnant or stale, follow your instinct, thank all of the components & energy for their help, clean what items you can re-use (i.e. the bowl and offering dish) and discard the rest.
